RIDGEWAY SCHOOL

Now you really don’t know your own good fortune till you’ve spent any amount of time with kids with severe learning difficulties. We were contacted to make a series of films for Ridgeway, and the first hour or two, you have to try not to cry. After that, you fall in love.
And hopefully the films reflect the brilliance of the school, the loving and nurturing atmosphere, and the absolutely joyful, loving nature of the kids.

Ridgeway is a Special School for children aged 2-19 with severe and profound multiple learning difficulties.

The staff are clearly dedicated, committed and hard-working and work with a pro-active governing body, to implement the aims of the school. In planning to meet each pupil’s needs staff work closely with physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and the full-time school nurse. Outside support agencies, such as hearing and visually impaired services, the educational psychologist, portage workers and our link social worker, visit frequently to give support to pupils, parents and staff.

Ridgeway provide a learning environment that is stimulating and challenging, yet supportive and enjoyable, thus enabling pupils to develop relationships, knowledge and practical skills to reach their full potential and achieve as much independence as possible. Their ethos; that the development of communication, physical, personal and social skills are the key to success of further learning. As such, these are given a high priority throughout the curriculum.
